Before writing anything, Happy birthday To Stephen king.. I wish you great health and hope you will continue to take the horror to further levels 🙂

In simple or layman terms, “The Shining” is not a book, it is “TRAP” for bibliophile, you will start and addicted to it, by the time you will complete 100 pages, you will feel you are fully immersed/submerged into it, it will scare you, it will give you shrills, you would like to come out, you won’t be able to, well the story doesn’t end it here, when it reaches towards end, you will feel like WHY it ended so soon… And That’s shining. So, what now.. Let’s start Doctor’s Sleep..
It is magical horrific journey, where it will starts from a Hotel which seems to be perfect for solitude, away from hustle n bustle of the city, given the fact if I have a chance to settle a place like overlook with a big library and internet as food supply was in abundance trust it is perfect place for me.

I have read other Stephen King book as well, it is 4th from Stephen King, after Different Season, Pet Sematary and Mr Mercedes. I feel The Shining has no equal, it is not the book which you will just read and forget.. When I read it, I feel like I have entered a new world that had been allusive to me in other novels. This is the book which you would like to revisit again for sure, definably when you are in mood to horror.

I think anybody who feels little interest in horror genre should definitely give a try, I am sure there will be others horrors are available too, but this plot is different, you will able to connect as Torrance family seems to be common ordinary family and they have common ordinary problems. Also, I have read it somewhere while writing Shining, the author was able to craft every scene with a sense of reality that would come alive in my mind in ways that were truly terrifying to remember. He was able to do this because of his own experiences in battling alcoholism and understanding what a person and his family goes through emotionally when dealing with this addiction.
Also, we all know Stephen king has a power i.e. the higher level of craftsmanship and storytelling. You will end up having sympathy as well empathy with the characters.

Talking about Plot, Jack Torrance, his wife Wendy, and their 5-year-old son Danny, who move into the hotel after Jack accepts the position as winter caretaker. Jack is characterized as an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic with anger issues troubled by past binges that, prior to the story, had caused him to accidentally break Danny’s arm and lose his position as a teacher. Jack hopes that the hotel’s seclusion will help him reconnect with his family and give him the motivation needed to work on a play. Danny, unknown to his parents, possesses telepathic abilities referred to as “the shining” that enable him to read minds and experience premonitions. Dick Hallorann, the chef at the Overlook, also possesses similar abilities to Danny’s and helps to explain them to him, giving Hallorann and Danny a special connection.

The Overlook has difficulty possessing Danny, so it begins to possess Jack, frustrating his need and desire to work. Jack starts to develop cabin fever, and the sinister ghosts of the hotel gradually begin to overtake him, making him increasingly unstable.(now only Stephen king can come up with only this such unique plot). And…. Please read Shining for more …
“The world’s a hard place, Danny. It don’t care. It don’t hate you and me, but it don’t love us, either. Terrible things happen in the world, and they’re things no one can explain. Good people die in bad, painful ways and leave the folks that love them all alone. Sometimes it seems like it’s only the bad people who stay healthy and prosper. The world don’t love you, but your momma does and so do I.”

“The tears that heal are also the tears that scald and scourge.”

“Small children are great accepters. They don’t understand shame, or the need to hide things.”

Many people would say there are so many extra unnecessary details here and there, like reiterating the past of Jack Torrance, once it was fine, but it feels, there some details which could have avoided, but somehow the only part I feel could have been better, when book was reaching towards climax and Dick Hallorann was trying to reaching Dan and there were so much obstacles due to weather, topiary animals.. Other than that I feel given the length of the book it depicts the perception and I love the book which explains perceptions from different characters, as recently I didn’t like We were liars just book it lacks perception. It is just single POV.

Once you read Stephen King, The Shining you will be forced to think shouldn’t you read all novels by Stephen for instance – The Stand, Salem’s Lot 🙂

Ah I forgot to mention The Shining has few side effects too –
1. REDRUM REDRUM will echo in the night
2. Before sleeping, it will force to check twice the locks of your house 😛
3. While reading at night, you might end you with some instance which will take away your sleep and make you wide-awake

So, I am forced to sign off with 5/5. Between anybody reading this review Do you SHINE ????
